Tea-Off Competition: Honoree

Tea has a history and meaning in many different cultures: East to West, ceremonial to casual. As an embodiment of these diverse elements the TK references Eastern-looking 19th century European design movements including Anglo-Japanese and Orientalism. These aesthetics mirror the evolution of tea in the West—brought to Europe as an Asian import eventually integrated into Europe's cultural identity.

Reference to Orientalism is seen in the vessel's balance and proportion. The ergonomics are based on the studies of Christopher Dresser. By applying the functional aspects of his styling the handle design provides a subtle feeling of heritage and history.

In journalistic circles the letters "tk" are a placeholder meaning "to come". Here the TK is provided to act as a vessel that an individual can use in the development of their own rituals to come.
